The Island & Snorkeling
Damai Homestay is located on the western corner of Yefkabu Island, a quiet island in the heart of Raja Ampat. This side of the island is calm, open to the sea, and far removed from busy boat routes and crowded snorkelling areas.
Life here feels slow and natural. Above the water, the island is peaceful and grounded in village life. Below the surface, the reefs remain healthy and colourful, shaped by strong currents, clean water, and low visitor numbers. It’s a place where you can snorkel at your own pace, without schedules or crowds.
The reef offers a mix of environments:
- Shallow coral areas close to shore, ideal for easy snorkelling
- Colourful coral gardens full of reef fish
- Slightly deeper sections for confident swimmers
Conditions vary with tides and weather, and the family are always happy to advise on the best times to snorkel safely.
Marine Life
The waters around Damai Homestay are rich with everyday reef life. Snorkellers commonly see schools of tropical fish, healthy coral formations, and the constant movement that makes Raja Ampat so special underwater.
On some days, larger marine life such as turtles, reef sharks, dolphins, or even manta rays may be seen in nearby waters, especially during the right season. While sightings can never be guaranteed, the reefs here offer rewarding snorkelling straight from the island, without the need for long boat trips.
For guests wanting to explore further, the homestay can help arrange snorkelling trips, fishing excursions, or island hopping to nearby areas — always guided by local knowledge and conditions on the day.
